3 Stages in the Evolution of the Human Spirit

The development of the human spirit has three stages. This development begins with separated ego, “me” and ends in the free space of Consciousness.

EGO -The Unconscious Patterns of the Mind 

The Ego is the central figure of our personal history, based upon the past and looking into the future. The components of the Ego are thoughts, emotions, memories (with which the person identifies as "my story”), fixed unconscious roles and collective identifications (nationality, religion, etc.). Most people completely identify with these components of the Ego, and for them no self "outside” of this exists.

The Evolutionary Purpose of the Ego

We live here on this Earth, in the world of individual ”Selves.” We dwell in the empire of seven billion separate and isolated Egoes, and in the domain of the Ego we tend to forget about the Miracle of Consciousness. The Ego only pursues its own dreams and ambitions, and so it very often embitters our life. 

We must face reality: there is a tyrannic ”small ego” in everybody’s head, and this small ego keeps grumbling and complaining all the time. It is a dissatisfied, possessive small ego that often makes our life a misery. It is for certain that this small ego–or, more precisely, what we believe is our Self, our Ego–coiled up tightly in the back of our mind, is responsible for a tremendous amount of senseless and unnecessary suffering and destruction in the history of mankind.

3 Deepest Unconscious Mind Games

The Ego-dominated mind plays its games in daily life, and creates the characters and scenarios necessary for the games. The content of such a scenario is determined by the individual’s environment and upbringing, that is, the culture in which we grow up. As a result, entirely different scenarios are created in the various cultures of our Earth.

At the beginning of our spirirual journey, we identify with these scenarios. The scenarios provide us with the sense of a solid identity. The patterns of thoughts fixed in the scenarios are manifested in various mind games during our daily life.

In the course of our journey leading to Consciousness, our objective should not be creating a positive character, and thus a pleasant scenario, but finding the Existence behind every scenario. The first step is examining the scenarios, these conditioned thought-patterns, in the light of Consciousness. Let us first examine some of our most extensive mind games that are rooted deepest.

3 Manipulative Tricks of the Spiritual Ego

The question could emerge in many of us, whether the spiritual Ego is a supporter or an obstructor of the spiritual development. Can it meddle in the process of spiritual development, and if yes, then how does it do it? 

According to us, the spiritual Ego can interfere with innumerable tricks in the life of the spiritual seeker. These spiritual tricks are manifested in various spiritual mind games. Some of the most important ones are discussed below.

Living Life in the Flow of Universe

On the ordinary days of our life, you work, educate your children, have some fun, build and sustain connections with others, that is, you live an ordinary life. The question is, whether you are mindful during all these things, or you just perform these activities mechanically, automatically. What is the evidence for me that you are not mindful?

First, that you are not present. To be present means that you are fully alert, attentive, and conscious in the present moment. Whatever you do, you do that fully consciously, you focus your entire attention on that particular activity. Or, do you feel free to declare that you are present in every moment of your life? You are careless most of the time, as a large segment of your attention is bound by dealing with events of your thoughts, events of past and plans for future and your own self. Psychological time therefore displaces the moment of the present, or subordinates it to past or future.

The Dimensions of Awakened Consciousness

When the notion of awakened Consciousness is mentioned at a conversation, people often tend to confuse it with being awake.  awakened Consciousness is, however, not identical with being awake, since being awake is only one dimension of awakened Consciousness. It is the outermost dimension of awakened Consciousness, its surface only. Three dimensions of awakened Consciousness may be identified.

The surface, that is, the outermost dimension of awakened Consciousness is when the focus of attention is open the widest. Being alert then means that now, in this very moment, with our eyes closed (or open) you pay attention to the processes of your inner world (bodily sensations, the stream of your thoughts, the shifting of your emotions), and the external world surrounding you (noises, scents etc. from the direct world around you). In such an instant you only focus your attention on what takes place in that very moment.

The society and culture in which you have grown up programmed those fixed patterns of the mind into you, and your identity who you are and what your job is in this world, is based upon those patterns. 

These systematic patterns of thoughts, programmed into you by your parents and teachers are deeply embedded into your mind and subconscious by the psychological mechanisms of identification, and they automatically surface every now and then.

Whether you like it or not, these thoughts come and go, your mind is in constant motion. These patterns strive to be self-sustaining, and they generate the work of mind. The result is the cobweb of thoughts with which you identify and that is how you live your life.

In-Depth Programming of the Mind 

The fixed patterns of your mind are individual, since they reflect the expectations of the particular environment in which you have been brought up. The expectations usually influence you unconsciously, almost like automatic deep programs of the mind.

3 Transformational Processes Within the Spiritual Growth

There are three transformational processes within the evolution of the Consciousness. These are, in fact, three levels of development. 

At these different levels of development the state and functions of the Counsciousness show entirely different signs. 

If we are aware of these characteristic signs, we may easily recognize what state of development of the Consciousness we are in: ordinary Consciousness, awakening or the level of complete freedom.
